Top of the Standardbred World
The Prix d’Amerique Marionnaud (G1), the world championship of harness racing, is the most highly anticipated racing event in France every year, generating more excitement and betting than even the prestigious Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (G1).
With a purse of approximately $1.3-million, the Prix d’Amerique is open to Standardbreds ages four through ten, excepting geldings, with the winner receiving a prize of about $657,000.
This year will mark the 91st running of the iconic event, conducted over 2700 meters (about 1 11/16 miles) at Vincennes Racecourse in Paris—known as the Temple of Harness Racing.
A number of accomplished stars have been entered among the 18 trotters in this year's field. Some of the notable entries include:
· 2011 Prix d’Amerique winner Ready Cash, who will have to start from the trailing Post 18;
· Maharajah, runner-up in last year's race when a length behind Ready Cash, who is owned by a primarily Swedish syndicate of 6,000 investors and who will start from Post 16;
· Quif de Villenueve, who won the recent Prix du Cornulier, a “monte” race in which trotters are ridden rather than driven from a sulky, and who has Post 9; and
· Royal Dream, who won the Prix de Belgique prep over Ready Cash and who has Post 1.
AmWest Entertainment is proud to partner with France’s Pari Mutuel Urbain to present the nine-race Prix d’Amerique program to North American horseplayers in a common pool. Last year, wagering on the Prix d’Amerique race alone topped $30-million.
