Dubai World Cup Carnival Boasts Top Racing Talent

American Champions Will Join the World’s Best in Meydan

PROSPECT, KENTUCKY, January 7, 2015—Starting tomorrow, the 20th Dubai World Cup Carnival will have the most stellar collection of horses, jockeys and trainers from around the world. And for the 6th straight year, AmWest Entertainment has been selected to deliver the Dubai World Cup Carnival and the Dubai World Cup simulcast program throughout North and South America.

The Carnival begins Thursday, January 8 with a first post of 10:20 a.m. EST for a six-race program featuring the $250,000 Al Maktoum Challenge Round I (G2) over eight furlongs on the new dirt track at Meydan Racecourse. The post time for the last race is 1:15 pm EST.

“The DRC (Dubai Racing Club) is glad to welcome AmWest back for the 2015 Dubai World Cup Carnival,” said Frank Gabriel Jr., Executive Director Racing for the Dubai Racing Club. “This will be our sixth season in partnership and AmWest continues to grow in their enthusiasm to promote our racing in North America,”

The Maktoum Challenge series offers key preps for the $10-million Dubai World Cup (G1), the world’s richest race, which is part of the richest day of racing on March 28 at Meydan with prize money of over $29-million. There will be 10 Carnival race dates prior to the World Cup, peaking with Super Saturday on March 7.

“The Dubai World Cup Carnival and Dubai World Cup provide players with the highest quality fields anywhere in the world at this time of year and the best wagering product,” said AmWest Entertainment Chief Executive Officer Nelson Clemmens. “It’s an honor to partner once again with the Dubai Racing Club. We are looking forward to presenting the most outstanding Dubai season ever to American fans.”

American champions Bayern, Main Sequence, Distinctive Passion and Salutos Amigos are among a strong contingent of horses aiming for the Dubai World Cup. Bayern and Main Sequence are both finalists for 2014 Horse of the Year. A change to dirt from the artificial surface Tapeta has been mentioned as a significant factor why Americans are looking towards Dubai and the lucrative purses.

“We will celebrate the 20th running of the Dubai World Cup and the track will be the natural surface that proved so successful during the first 14 years of this magnificent race day,” said Saeed Al Tayer, chairman and chief executive of the Meydan Group.

Added DRC’s Gabriel: “It is great to see so many US horses entered for the Carnival. It is a first step for us following the installation of dirt.”

Among the International entrants are winners of:

• Great Britain’s 2,000 Guineas (Night of Thunder)

• the Irish St Leger (Brown Panther)

• Ascot’s King’s Stand Stakes (Sole Power)

• the Preis Von Europa in Germany (Empoli)

• the Keeneland Phoenix Stakes (Sudiman) in the USA

• South Africa’s President’s Champions Challenge (Yorker) and Betting World Cape Flying Championship (Via Africa).

A record 240 horses from 21 countries, with an unprecedented 31 Group 1 winners, are set to compete at the Carnival for prominent trainers including America’s Graham Motion, who won 2013’s Dubai World Cup with Animal Kingdom; Norway’s Rune Haugen and Neils Petersen; South Africa’s Mike de Kock; Britain’s Richard Hannon and Marc Botti; and Germany’s Peter Schiergen.

Following the January 8 opening of the Carnival, other dates for the season are: January 15, 22 and 29; February 5, 12, 19 and 26; and March 7, (Super Saturday) and 28 (Dubai World Cup day).
