    Godolphin Runner Charts Course for Zabeel Mile

    A step up in class proved no obstacle for the Godolphin-trained Safety Check as Charlie Appleby’s runner was the comfortable winner of the Group 2 Al Fahidi Fort in the Dubai World Cup Carnival’s Gulf News night at Meydan on Thursday.

    A handicap winner over the same 1400m course and distance two weeks earlier, Safety Check recorded his biggest career win to date. Apprentice Cam Hardie had been in the saddle on the previous occasion but stable jockey, William Buick, was aboard for Thursday’s big win.

    Mike De Kock bids to continue winning ways tomorrow (Saturday), following his Dubai World Cup Carnival 1-2 in the UAE 2000 Guineas Trial on Thursday, courtesy of Mubtaahij and Ajwad.

    While Saturday’s Meydan Sobha card may not be part of the Dubai World Cup Carnival, there is still plenty of class, with the cream of the talent finding a berth in the penultimate Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum City - District One Handicap over a mile of Meydan’s turf course.

    African Story takes $10 million Dubai World Cup

    DUBAI - They came from Europe and Asia, from South Africa and neighbouring Saudi Arabia, but the ruling Maktoum family of this desert emirate dominated the $10 million Dubai World Cup over 2000 metres at Meydan racecourse. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, the Ruler of Dubai, saw horses in his colours finish first and third, courtesy of African Story and Cat O'Mountain respectively.
